With 33 films and 3 shorts programs, the AFFD offers much to film fans over the seven days of its festival. But AFFD is offering more to audiences this year, both before the fest week begins, and during its run.
Thursday, July 15
A co-presented screening of ISLAND ETUDE at the Dallas Museum of Art, as part of DMA’s COASTLINES: IMAGES OF LAND AND SEA Summer Movie Series. 7:30pm, visit DMA website for ticket information.
Friday and Saturday, July 16-17
Two co-presented screenings of HAUSU at Landmark’s Inwood Theatre, as part of Landmark’s Midnight Madness movie series. Midnights, visit Landmark website for ticket information.
Thursday, July 22
AFFD Kickoff Party at LaGrange in Deep Ellum. VIP entry at 7pm, Public entry at 8pm. Free to the public. Showing of 2009 Audience Award winner IP MAN begins around 8:30pm.
Friday, July 23
AFFD Opening Night Happy Hour/Reception at Social House in West Village. 6-7pm. Free to the public.
Saturday, July 24
AFFD Midnight Karaoke at the Magnolia Theater Bar, hosted by RedCarpetCrash.com. Midnight. Free to the public.
Sunday, July 25
Reception at 7pm featuring appetizers from The Sushi Bar for VIP passholders before Centerpiece screening of IP MAN 2 at the Magnolia Theatre at 7:30pm.
Monday, July 26
MAO’S LAST DANCER screening at the Magnolia Theatre, with special guests Charles Foster and Ben Stevenson in attendance to discuss their real-life experience as portrayed in the film. 6:30pm.
Tuesday, July 27
2010 AFFD Juried Award Winners announced at The Fish in West Village. Initial presentations of the Panasonic Avionics Award for Excellence in Asian Film. 5-7pm. Free to the public.
Wednesday, July 28
9500 LIBERTY screening at the Angelika Dallas, with director Eric Byler and community leaders in attendance to discuss the making of the film, and the impact of the immigration debate in the Dallas community. 7:30pm.
Thursday, July 29
THE PEOPLE I’VE SLEPT WITH Closing Night screening at the Magnolia Theatre, with director Quentin Lee in attendance, followed by the Closing Night Party at Deux Nightclub at Mockingbird Station. Film at 7:30pm. Party at 10pm, Free to VIPs and ticketholders, cover charge for public.
