A Frozen Flower
A film by Yoo Ha
Southwest Premiere
“I heard you took care of something I should have done.”
A FROZEN FLOWER takes the power of passion to the next level. Director Yoo Ha (A DIRTY CARNIVAL) creates a perfect combination of love, loyalty, and betrayal and wraps it in a backdrop of beauty and grace. The director manages to put his own unique twist on how royal power can be used to manipulate and destroy.
The film takes place during the end of the Goryeo Dynasty. A young King (Joo Jin-Mo) takes over the throne at an early age and recruits other young boys to train as his personal guards. Hong Lim (Jo In-Seong) grows up to become the chief guardian as well as the King’s lover. During this time the King is faced with political threats from the Yuan Dynasty because of his inability to provide a royal heir to the throne. Hong Lim is ordered to secretly make love to the Queen (Song Ji-Hyo) so that she can give birth to an heir. The King never suspects how this encounter will ultimately ruin both his relationships and impact the nation.
Combining an emotional tale with beautiful cinematography and gorgeous traditional Korean costumes, A FROZEN FLOWER is a work of art.
