Beijing Taxi
A film by Miao Wang
Dallas Premiere
“Beijingers are easily satisfied. They don’t like competition.”
Miao Wang’s documentary BEIJING TAXI serves as an honest portrait of three Chinese cab drivers during the period before and after the 2008 Olympics.
Bai , Zhou and Wei each have their respective economic hardships to deal with: Bai, beset with health issues, is due to retire in a few years and can see the difference between Mao’s regime from his youth and the currently emerging capitalist China; Zhou faces repeated engine failure that threatens his license mere months before the massive tourist business brought on by the Olympics; and Wei, the only woman, is a former teacher who wants to own her own business, but the economy does not suit her plans.
BEIJING TAXI is a vivid, colorful film that visually shows off the beauty and new vs. old characteristics of the city, while openly addressing the impacts of those changes on its people.
