Bay Rong (Clash)
A film by Le Thanh Son
Southwest Premiere
“If the entrance is easy, the exit won’t be.”
Taking a page from the John Frankenheimer thriller RONIN, BAY RONG begins with a sleek, tattooed woman called Phoenix (Ngo) bringing together a team of four anonymous men for a series of missions. They are told not to ask questions, and each is given a code-name befitting of their skill set. Their primary goal: to obtain a package being ferried by a team of Frenchmen. The importance of the package, and who it is for? No questions, or you get a kick to the face.
Crisply edited, with bone-snapping fights and fast-paced action scenes, the Vietnamese film is a must-see for fans of the low-budget action genre. Director Le Thanh Son has crafted a tight, effective and stylish film which is also loads of fun. With a booming soundtrack made up of Vietnamese hip-hop and a plot that keeps you guessing, BAY RONG is a winner, no questions asked.
