“I can abide in order to survive, but I cannot tolerate insults to Chinese martial arts.”
The powerhouse sequel to last year’s rousing Audience Award winner, IP MAN 2 arrives with all the players on board: Donnie Yen returns in the titular role as the grandmaster of Wing Chun; beloved star Sammo Hung returns as action choreographer and gets a major role in the new film; and director Wilson Yip remains at the helm, moving this terrific story into a new era.
It is 1950′s Hong Kong, and Ip Man is setting up his martial arts school during a tumultuous, post-WWII period of British colonialism. But before he can establish his own place in the community he must battle (both figuratively and literally) the surrounding schools, including Hung-Ga master Hung Chun-Nam (Sammo Hung). Along the way, Ip Man must deal with a pregnant wife, police corruption and a vicious British boxer who wants to destroy any Chinese fighter who gets in his way.
With its period authenticity, terrific cast and phenomenal action sequences, IP MAN 2 is sure to enthrall AFFD audiences just as its predecessor did.
