Running Turtle
A film by Lee Yeon-Woo
Southwest Premiere
“Our Father, who art in Heaven. Buy us this day our daily bread.”
As heedless protagonists go, Sang-Hoon of BREATHLESS and Pil-Seong (Kim Yun-Seok) of RUNNING TURTLE could be cousins of attitude: both men completely disdain their jobs, but while Sang-Hoon creates efficiency through violence, Pil-Seong is so unmotivated that he’d rather be anywhere else but his Police station.
Pil-Seong is a rural detective with a gambling problem. After being suspended, he steals his wife’s savings and places a bet on a bull race – and wins a rare, massive sum. But before he can retrieve his cash, his bookie’s office is burglarized by a violent thief named Song (Jeong Kyeong-Ho), whose martial art skills are more than the local cops and petty criminals Pil-Seong relies on can handle. Given reason to take his job seriously, Pil-Seong investigates Song and tracks him, while preparing for a final, bone-breaking showdown.
RUNNING TURTLE is a gritty cop drama that relies more on human behavior and sly, effective comedy than fast-paced action. But when it has to, this film knows how to throw down. Don’t miss it!
